Anna Netrebko will sing Violetta in Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Opera National de Paris. While the 2017-18 season has not been announced, this morning an Instagram account entitled Netrebko, La Splendida released a picture of the 2017-18 program. Netrebko will perform alongside Charles Castronuovo and Placido Domingo.

The soprano will alternate with Latvian soprano Marina Rebeka and she will sing with Rame Lahaj and Vitaliy Bilyy. Dan Ettinger will conduct all the performances scheduled for February. This is the second production Netrebko will sing of “La Traviata” since moving into the dramatic soprano repertoire.

The soprano will sing the role at the Teatro alla Scala in March and stated that she wanted to sing Violetta the way Verdi intended and believed she could do it now. Netrebko made her international breakout when she sung the Salzburg production of Verdi’s “La Traviata.” The opera was released on DVD and CD and has become of the most sold releases in the last decade.

She has sung the role all over the world including Munich, London, Saint Petersburg and her last run of the opera came in 2009 in San Francisco.

The Opera National de Paris does not announce its season until Wednesday but many details have already been released. Alessandra Kurzak announced that she would be making two role debuts while a blog announced that the 2017-18 season would open with a new production of Verdi’s “Don Carlo” with Jonas Kaufmann, Elina Garanca and Sonya Yoncheva.

UPDATE: The last time Anna Netrebko sang Violetta was in 2010 with the Royal Opera during its Japan tour.
