Anna Netrebko has announced that she will sing Verdi’s “Nabucco.”

During a conversation with Mary Jo Heath, the soprano revealed that she has plans to do the role of Abigaille from Verdi’s “Nabucco” in a few years. While she gave no details on where she would be singing the role, Netrebko did confirm that she is excited to sing Strauss’ “Salome.”

During her conversation, she also spoke about her upcoming “Tosca” in Puccini’s  opera. Netrebko noted that she was more fond of Cavaradossi and Scarpia than Tosca and that she felt an artist needed to be mature to be able to take on the role. She also went on to say that she was making sure that she did not fall into the cliches that are associated with the title role.

Netrebko was also adamant about using “In Questa Reggia” as her warm-up aria and also noted she was more confident with her top register. In the conversation, she also spoke about her upcoming “Aida,” which she has already begun studying and reconfirmed that she will be opening the upcoming Teatro alla Scala season in Giordano’s “Andrea Chenier.”

Netrebko is currently performing Tatiana in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” for which she has scored rave reviews. OperaWire noted, “Netrebko’s interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s operatic masterwork was an in-your-face reminder that she is singular among modern opera’s elite superstars.”
