Anna Netrebko stunned Vienna State Opera audiences on Sunday, Feb. 5 after her second aria “D’Amor sull’ali rosee” at the premiere of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore.”

Netrebko’s performance threatened to stop the show as audiences cheered her performance for more than two minutes.

The soprano was not the only performer to receive such a grand ovation. Ludovic Tezier also garnered warm applause after his “Il Balen del suo sorriso.”

The rest of the cast was rounded out by superstar Roberto Alagna and Luciana d’Intino.

For audiences who missed the broadcast, the blog Anna Netrebko La Splendida has the full recording.

The performance marked the first new production of “Il Trovatore” at the Vienna State Opera since 2001 and the first time the opera was being performed since 2003.

Netrebko was also returning to the stage after a month on break and it also marked her first performances of 2017. The soprano next performs Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Teatro alla Scala.
