Anna Netrebko, Plácido Domingo Among Highlights of Chorégies d’Orange 2019

The 150th Chorégies d’Orange has been announced. It will feature a number of major works and artists, including Anna Netrebko and Plácido Domingo.

Operas

Rossini’s “Guillaume Tell” will be the first work presented at the festival. Led by music director Gianluca Capuano, the work will be directed by Jean-Louis Grinda and will star Nicola Alaimo, Annick Massis, and Celso Albelo.

Performance Date: July 12, 2019

Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” will get a showcase featuring a production by Davide Livermore. Erwin Schrott stars in a production that will also include Nadine Sierra, Adrian Sampetrean, Karine Deshayes, Stanilas de Barbeyrac, Annalisa Stroppa, Fernando Rado, and Alexei Tikhomirov. Frédéric Chaslin leads the Orchestra de l’Opéra de Lyon.

Performance Dates: August 2 & 6, 2019

Concerts & Recitals

The festival kicks off with “Pop the Opera,” a concert that will feature students performing a number of famed choral moments from opera. The performance will be led by Didier Benetti. Among the participating institutions are Lycée Aubanel à Avignon, Collège Joseph d’Arbaud à Vaison-la-Romaine, Collège Saint-Charles à Cavaillon, Collège Arausio à Orange, Lycée Saint-Louis à Orange, and Collège Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Accueil à Monteux, among others.

Performance Date: June 22, 2019

Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov will give a concert performance and Plácido Domingo, Ana María Martinez, and Arturo Chacon-Cruz will put on a night of Spanish music. Ramón Vargas will also appear in recital and the festival will feature a rendition of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony.
