Anna Netrebko Makes Crossover on MTV Unplugged

By Francisco Salazar

Anna Netrebko has once again “crossed-over” to the pop world. This time the Russian soprano is joining Andreas Gablaier in a new song “Amoi seg ma uns wieder.” The song is featured in Gabalier’s new album MTV Unplugged, which is part of a concert series with MTV.

The soprano is also featured in a new music video which shows the two artists recording the song in the studio. It is the first time the soprano collaborates with Gablaier and it is also the first time that Netrebko is featured on MTV.

The soprano, who has been described as Opera’s Rock Star,  has a lot of experience with music videos and the pop world. In 2011 the soprano collaborated with Philipp Kirkorov on a remake of the famed song “La Voix.” The song was recorded in English and in Russian and won numerous awards in Russia. The Russian soprano has also participated in two New Wave concerts in Russia and has sung many ballads by composer Igor Krutoy. Netrebko is scheduled to release a new album that is dedicated to Krutoy’s music. Additionally, for her first album with Deutsche Grammophon, Netrebko gave opera the MTV treatment as the soprano released a DVD of music videos for popular arias.

Gablaier is an Austrian folk singer who has won numerous accolades including the Echo-Klassik music award in folk music category, the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in 2012 and 2013 as Best Live Act and best ‘Schlager’ singer. He is currently on tour for his MTV unplugged CD.

Netrebko is one of the leading sopranos in the world. She is currently singing Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s “Macbeth” at the Bayerische Staatsoper and is scheduled to sing a new production of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” at the Vienna State Opera. This season she will also return to Violetta in Verdi’s “La Traviata.”
