Anna Netrebko, Elina Garanca, Plácido Domingo Among Stars to Lead Metropolitan Opera 2017 Summer Live in HD Encores

By James Monroe Števko

Maybe you missed some operas?

Or you just loved it so much you need a second dose.

The popular Metropolitan Opera Live in HD encores are scheduled for four viewings in June and July.

These popular silver screen opera transmissions have grown since 2006 to become the leader in alternative movie theater programming.

June will be encoring “Les Pêchuers de Perles” on the 21st with the opera star trio of Diana Damrau, Marius Kwiecien and Matthew Polenzani in Bizet’s romantic South Asian drama. One week later on the 28th, the operatic adaptation of “Macbeth” lives again with Anna Netrebko and Željko Lučíć in the production from 2014. Also appearing are Joseph Calleja and legendary bass René Pape, all conducted by Fabio Luisi.

This year’s prized production of “Nabucco” begins July’s programming, on the 12th. Liudmyla Monastyrska, Plácido Domingo, and Jamie Barton are not to be missed this time around.

Concluding the summer is the world favorite “Carmen.” Elīna Garanča and Roberto Alagna will be sure to keep this summer hot with Spain’s tumultuous love triangle which also featured Teddy Tahu Rhoades as Escamillo. The bullfight returns (and ends…) July 19th.
