On Jan. 29, Wagner’s “Lohengrin” will be broadcast on ORF III.

The broadcast company announced that the opera will be shown at 8:15 local time on HD. The broadcast is a recording of “Lohengrin” from Semperoper Dresden last May. The production marked the triple role debuts of Anna Netrebko as Elsa von Brabant, Piotr Beczała as Lohengrin, and Tomasz Konieczny as Friedrich von Telramund. The performance also featured Evelyn Herlitzius as Ortrud, Georg Zeppenfeld as Heinrich der Vogler. Maestro Christian Thielemann conducted the production created by Christine Mielitz that premiered in 1983 and had its 112th-115th presentations.

When the production was revived, critics raved about the singing. Bachtrack stated, “Above all, this was an unforgettable musical performance, thanks largely to Anna Netrebko’s miraculous first outing as a Wagnerian heroine and Christian Thielemans’s revelatory conducting.”

Netrebko is currently on vacation and returns to the stage in February for a new production of Verdi’s ‘Il Trovatore” with Roberto Alagna. She will also be featured in the Met’s Live in HD series in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” and will also be featured in 50th Anniversary Gala. She is also scheduled to make her role debut at the Salzburg Festival in Verdi’s “Aida.”

Meanwhile Beczala is scheduled to return to the stage as Massenet’s “Werther” at the Liceu in Barcelona and will also return to the Metropolitan Opera for the company’s 50th Anniversary Gala. He will also tour in recital and will return to the Zurich Opera for Léhar’s “Das Land des Lächeln.”
