Angela Gheorghiu and Ramon Vargas To Reunite For International Music Festival of Cesky Krumlov Opening Gala Concert

Angela Gheorghiu and Ramon Vargas will reunite for the opening opera gala concert at the International Music Festival of Cesky Krumlov.

The concert which will take place on July 3 will conducted by Leoš Svárovský  and will feature the PKF – Prague Philharmonia, However, details of the concert have not been announced. Gheorghiu and Vargas have performed in many productions together, most notably Verdi’s “La Traviata” and Puccini’s “La Boheme.” Both operas were released on DVD from the Teatro alla Scala and Metropolitan Opera. They were supposed to reunite at the Vienna State Opera for Massenet’s “Werther” but Vargas pulled out for most of the run due to illness. ,

Gheorghiu is one of the most famous sopranos in the world. The soprano has sang with every important company and has conquered numerous roles including Verdi’s “la Traviata,” Marguerite in Gounod’s “Faust” Amelia in Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” and Mimi in “La Boheme.” Most recently she has made Puccini’s “Tosca” a signature as well as Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur.” This season she is scheduled to perform “Tosca” in the Vienna State Opera and will make debuts at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires in the title role of “Adriana Lecouvreur.”

Vargas returns to the Metropolitan Opera for Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” before making a role debut in Rimsky Korsakov’s “The Snowmaiden at the Paris National Opera. He then goes to the Canadian National Opera for a run of Puccini’s “Tosca” before returning to the Vienna State Opera for a run of Verdi’s “Don Carlo” alongside Placido Domingo who is making his role debut as Posa.
