Aleksandra Kurzak, Tomasz Konieczny & Piotr Buszewski Lead Polish National Opera’s 2022-23 Season

The Polish National Opera has announced its 2022-23 season featuring six new productions and 15 revivals in opera and ballet.

Here is a look at the opera productions.

New Productions

The company will present “Chorus Opera”  with Rafał Bartmiński, Anna Terlecka-Kierner, and Dagmara Sokalska as the soloists. The production will feature music by Bizet, Leoncavallo, Mascagni, Moniuszko, Orff, Penderecki, Puccini, Szymanowski, Verdi, and Wagner. Patrick Fournillier conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 7, 2022-April 30, 2023

Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” will receive a new production directed by Mariusz Treliński. Patrick Fournillier Conducts a cast that includes Tomasz Konieczny, Izabela Matuła, Krzysztof Szumański, Tadeusz Szlenkier, Monika Ledzion-Porczyńska, and Dariusz Machej.

Performance Dates: Jan. 13-22 2023

Piotr Staniszewski conducts Piazzola’s “Maria de Buenos Aires” directed by Wojciech Faruga.

Performance Dates: March 16-May 14, 2023

Peter Wedd, Caroline Beskow, and Krzysztof Szumański lead a new production of Britten’s “Peter Grimes” with Michał Klauza conducting and Mariusz Treliński directing.

Performance Dates: June 23-29, 2023

Revivals

Anna Lubańska, Oksana Nosatova, Milen Bozhkov, Iurie Maimescu, and Nikoloz Lagvilava star in Verdi’s “Aida.” A second cast will star Monika Ledzion-Porczyńska, Khatuna Chokhonelidze, Hovhannes Ayvazyan, Iurie Maimescu, and Stepan Drobit. Patrick Fournillier conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 14-Nov. 6, 2022

Adriana Ferfecka and Gabriela Gołaszewska lead Puccini’s “La Bohème” with Piotr Buszewski, Davide Giusti, Joanna Kędzior, Aleksandra Orłowska, Szymon Mechliński, Tomasz Rak, Sławomir Kowalewski, Bartłomiej Misiuda, Jerzy Butryn, Łukasz Konieczny, Dariusz Machej, Grzegorz Szostak, and Paweł Czekała. Patrick Fournillier conducts.

Performance Dates: Dec. 4-11, 2022

Gabriela Gołaszewska, Emil Ławecki, Aleksandra Olczyk, Wojtek Gierlach, Hubert Zapiór, and Aleksandra Orłowska star in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” Piotr Staniszewski conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 3-May 30 2023

Łukasz Goliński stars in Szymanowski’s “King Roger” alongside Ruslana Koval, Tomasz Rak, Lukas Jakobski, and Anna Bernacka. Michał Klauza Conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 10 & 12, 2023

Lorenzo Passerini conducts “Carmina Burana” with soloists Anna Simińska and Adam Kutny.

Performance Date: Feb. 24-26, 2023

Puccini’s “Tosca” will be performed by two casts. The first will be led by Aleksandra Kurzak in the title role, Murat Karahan, and Mikołaj Zalasiński while the second will be led by Izabela Matuła, Tadeusz Szlenkier, and Krzysztof Szumański. Patrick Fournillier conducts. Khatuna Chokhonelidze stars in one performance in the title role.

Performance Dates: March 10-19, 2023

Rame Lahaj, Stepan Drobit, Simone Piazzola, Sabrina Sanza, Anna Simińska, Wojtek Gierlach, and Monika Ledzion-Porczyńska star in Verdi’s “Rigoletto.” Patrick Fournillier conducts.

Performance Dates: March 24-28, 2023

Andriy Yurkevych conducts Moniuszko’s “The Haunted Manor” with Stanislav Kuflyuk, Gabriela Gołaszewska, Katarzyna Szymkowiak, Albert Memeti, Piotr Kalina, and Paweł Horodyski.

Performance Dates: April 23-28, 2023

Bizet’s “Carmen” will be performed with two casts including Monika Ledzion-Porczyńska, Adriana Ferfecka, Dominik Sutowicz, and Krzysztof Szumański in the first cast and Gosha Kowalinska, and Paweł Skałuba. Patrick Fournillier conducts the revival.

Performance Dates: April 14-May 7, 2023

Hanna Hipp and Rafał Bartmiński lead a revival of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” with Patrick Fournillier conducting.

Performance Dates: May 26-31, 2023

Concerts

Moniuszko’s “Paria” will be performed in concert.

Performance Date: Oct. 26, 2022

Iwona Sobotka, Anna Bernacka, Mariusz Godlewski, and Maciej Tworek lead “A Sea of Dreams did Breathe on Me.”

Performance Date: Nov. 23, 2022

New Year’s Eve will be celebrated with a gala.

Performance Date: Dec. 31, 2022
