The Teatro de la Zarzuela has announced its 2019-20 season featuring eight full productions, gala concerts, recitals, and many important Spanish and international stars.

The season opens with Jesus Guridi’s “El Caserio” starring Raquel Lojendo, Angel Odena, Andeka Gorrotxateg, Marife Nogales, and Pablo Garcia Lopez. The second cast includes Carmen Solis, Joe Antonio Lopez, Jose Luis Sola, Ana Cristina Marco, and Jorge Rodriguez-Norton. Juanjo Mena conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3-20, 2019

Ricardo Llorca’s “Tres Sombreros de Copa” is set to star Jorge Rodriguez-Norton, Rocio Perez, Emilio Sanzchez, Gerardo Bullon, Enrique Viana, Irene Palazon, and Anna Goma. Diego Martin-Etxebarria condcuts.

Ainhoa Arteta stars in Jesus Guridi’s “Mirentxu” alongside Mikeldi Atxalandabaso, Christopher Robertson, Marife Nogales, and Jose Manuel Diaz. Oliver Diaz conducts.

Elizabeth Caballero and Elaine Alvarez share the title role of “Cecilia Valdez”  by Gonzalo Roig. They are joined by  Martin Nusspaumer, Enrique Ferrer, Homero Perez-Miranda, Eleomar Cuello, Linda Mirabal Isabel and Cristina Faus. Olivier Diaz conducts.

Maite Beaumont, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Rodrigo Esteves, Ruben Amoretti, and Leonardo star in Tomas Breton’s “Farinelli” with Guillermo Garcia Calvo condcuting.

Manuel Lanza, Ernesto Morillo, Sara Blanch, Pablo Garcia Lopez and Maria Hinojosa star in Tomas Marco’s “Policias y Ladrones.” Jose Ramon Encinar conducts Carme Portaceli’s production.

Yolanda Auyanet and Maite Alberola share the title role in Federico Moreno Torroba’s “Luisa Fernanda” with Jorge De Leon, alejandro del Cerro, Plácido Domingo, Juan Jesus Rodriguez, Javier Franco, Rocio Ignacio, and Leonor Bonilla. The production will mark Domingo’s return to the theater and he will be joined by Ramon Tebar in the pit in a production by Davide Livermore. David Gomez-Ramirez also conducts.

Performance Dates: April 20-May 17, 2020

The season ends with Sorozobal’s “La Tabernera del Puerto” with casts. The first cast will be headed by Sabina Puertolas, Damian del Castillo and Antonio Gandia. Maria Jose Moreno, Rodrigo Esteves, and Antoni Lliteres headline the second cast. Olivier Diaz conducts.

The season will open with a gala honoring Montserrat Caballé. The gala will feature Ruben Amoretti, Ainhoa Arteta, Yolanda Auyanet, Maria Bayo, Maite Beaumont, Gabriel Bermudez, Jose Bros, Carlos Chausson, Andeka Gorrotxategi, Airam Hernandez, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Ismael Jordi, Pilar Jurado, Maria Jose Montiel, Marina Monzo, Maria Jose Moreno, Simon orfila, Joan Pons, Sabina Puertolas, Isabel Rey, Juan Jesus Rodriguez, and Virginia Tola.

Rocio Ignacio and Jorge de leon join forces for a Christmas concert featuring music by Manuel Fernández Caballero, Pablo Sorozábal, Manuel Penella, Federico Moreno Torroba, Jacinto Guerrero, Leonard Bernstein, and Andrew Lloyd Weber. Olivier Diaz conducts.

Ismael Jordi takes the stage for an evening of music by Manuel García, Joaquín Turina, Pablo Luna, Amadeo Vives, Federico Moreno Torroba, Pablo Sorozábal and Jacinto Guerrero. Ruben Fernandez Aguirre joins him on piano.

Erwin Schrott sings Reveriano Soutullo y Juan Vert, Amadeo Vives, Pablo Sorozábal, Federico Moreno Torroba and Jacinto Guerrero in a recital with pianist Giulio Zappa.

Maria Bayo sings a concert entitled “Ecos Barrocos” with music by José de Nebra, Sebastián Durón, Emanuele Ricón de Astorga, Alessandro Scarlatti, Antonio Lotti, Francesco Durante, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Georg Friederich Händel and Antonio Vivaldi. Daniel Espasa conducts.

Virginia Tola alongside Ruben Fernandez Aguirre sings a program of Argentine songs with music  Carlos López Buchardo, Alberto Ginastera, Carlos Guastavino, and Ástor Piazzolla.

Cristina Faus sings a program dedicated to Malibran with harpist Juna Antonio Domene. The program will include music by Manuel García, María Milabrán, Gioachino Rossini, Vincenzo Bellini y Robert-Nicolas-Charles Bochsa.

Paola Leguizamon sings a program of Colombian music with  Ruben Fernandez Aguirre. The program includes music by Jaime León, Luis Carlos Figueroa, and Antonio María Valencia.
