Ailyn Perez to Make Her Lyric Opera of Chicago Debut at Placido Domingo Gala

Ailyn Perez will maker her Lyric Opera of Chicago debut on March 9 in a special one night gala celebrating Placido Domingo.

The soprano will join Domingo in Act two of Verdi’s “La Traviata,” a role she has been acclaimed for all over the world. In the second part of the gala Perez will join Domingo for popular arias and duets in Italian and French opera.

The two will be joined by tenor Michael Spyres, who will also take part in the second act of “La Traviata.” Eugene Kohn will conduct the evening, which will see Domingo in a rare appearance in Chicago.

Perez is a well established soprano who has sung in every major theater in the world. This season she makes stops at La Scala for productions of Puccini’s “La Boheme” and Verdi’s “La Traviata” and will also sing reprise “La Boheme” at the Metropolitan Opera. She also sing “La Traviata” at the Berlin Staatsoper.

Domingo is the world’ most acclaimed tenor and this season the Vienna State Opera will also celebrate Domingo in May. He will also make his role debut as Rodrigo in Verdi’s “Don Carlo” and sings the title role of Verdi’s “Macbeth.” Domingo is currently at the Metropolitan Opera singing title role of Verdi’s “Nabucco” and the Jan. 7 performance will transmitted Live in HD.

Spyres sing the title of Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffman” alongside Diana Damrau at the Bayerische Staatsoper and also joins Joyce Didonato in Berlioz’s “Les Troyens.” He will also record a solo album with Opera Rara.
