Aida Garifullina To Join Robbie Williams At Opening Of FIFA World Cup 2018

Soprano Aida Garifullina is set to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday, June 14, 2018.

The soprano will join pop star Robbie Williams and Brazil’s two-time FIFA World Cup champion Ronaldo to entertain the stadium crowd and the millions watching around the world during the half hour before kick-off for Russia vs Saudi Arabia in Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.

In a press release, the soprano noted, “I never imagined I would be part of this huge celebration, the World Cup, happening in my own country. And, on July 15, we will find out for whom this precious dream will come true, back on the same stage, after a month-long festival of football in Russia.”

Garifullina is also set to perform at the World Cup on June 13 alongside Anna Netrebko, Yusif Eyvazov, Juan Diego Florez, and Plácido Domingo among others. She is also set to for the annual Bastille Day Gala Concert, sharing the stage with Orchestre National de France, François-Xavier Roth, Joyce DiDonato, Matthias Goerne, Khatia Buniatishvili and Renaud Capuçon. Garifullina’s star has been on the rise of the past years after starring in the Oscar-nominated film “Florence Foster Jenkins” and winning the Operalia competition.
