Aida Garifullina Headlines New Production Of ‘The Snow Maiden’

On April 15, Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Snow Maiden” will premiere at the Opera National de Paris. The Russian opera is slated to star Aida Garifullina in the role. The young soprano, who recently released her debut album on Decca will be making her debut at the Paris opera in the opera. The soprano is slated to return to Paris for performances of Puccini’s “La Boheme” next season in the role of Musetta.

Garifullina will be joined by dramatic soprano Martina Serafin in the role of  Kupava and Ekaterina Semenchuk will share the role of  La Fée Printemps with Elena Manistina. Franz Hawalata also joins the cast alongside Yury Myenko and Maxim Paster.

Dmitri Tcherniakov, who is known for his radical takes in such operas as “Don Giovanni,” “Il Trovatore” and “Eugene Onegin,” directs the new production of “The Snow Maiden” with costumes by Elena Zaitseva and sets by Tcherniakov himself.

The opera will be presented eight times in a co-production with Bel Air Media. “The Snow Maiden” will be presented live in theaters on April 25 and will be transmitted on Arte and France Musique on April 26.
