Adela Zaharia & Miah Persson Replace Diana Damrau At Proms

Diana Damrau has canceled her participation at the BBC Proms festival.

The soprano, who recently canceled her role debut in Opera National de Paris’ new production of “Les Huguenots,” is now stepping out of her upcoming August 29, 2018, Proms concert. As a result, not one but two sopranos will fill in. Miah Persson will perform four Strauss songs, while Adela Zaharia will perform the world premiere of Iain Bell’s “Aurora,” which was composed for Damrau. Additionally, it will be Zaharia’s debut at BBC Proms.

Persson recently performed “Capriccio” at the Garsington Opera and is set to open a new production of “Idomeneo” at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma. Meanwhile, Zaharia has had a stand out year making her role debut in Haydn’s rarely performed work “Orlando Paladino” and making an unexpected debut at the LA Opera in “Rigoletto.”

Damrau is expected to return to the stage in December for a new production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” at the Metropolitan Opera.
