8 Premieres Highlight Volksoper Vienna 2017-18 Season

As is expected throughout this time period, we have yet another 2017-18 season announcement to report.

This time it comes from the Volksoper in Vienna. The company has proudly announced that its new year will feature numerous premieres and 20 repertory pieces among the many offerings for 2017-18. There will be a mix of musicals, operettas, and operas among the offerings. So let’s dive in.

The Premieres

September will feature the opening of the season with Jule Stynes’ famous musical “Gypsy.”

Verdi’s “I Masnadieri” will also get a showcase at the house, starting on October 14.

November brings Valtinoni’s “Pinocchio,” while December brings a new ballet, “Roméo et Juliette.” February will showcase the premiere of the operetta “Der Opernball.” March 2018 will give audiences in Vienna a chance to experience the famed musical “Carousel” while April will see the Vienna premiere of the chamber opera “Marilyn Forever.” The final Vienna premiere of the season will be “Gasparone,” which will take place in June.

Repertory

The major operas getting showcases with the company in 2017-18 include “The Barber of Seville,” “The Marriage of Figaro,” “The Merry Widow,” “Hansel and Gretel,” “The Tales of Hoffmann,” “La Traviata,” “La Wally,” “Die Fledermaus,” “Eine Nacht in Venedig,” and “Rusalka,” among many other musicals, and ballets. “Sweeney Todd” is among other the major offerings next season.
