Anna Netrebko Presents New Tea Set in Vienna Charity Event

By Francisco Salazar

On Dec. 13, Anna Netrebko held a gala evening in Vienna where she presented her author’s tea set “Aida” in collaboration with Imperial Porcelain.

During the evening, a charity auction took place with a unique pre-series sample of the tea set as a lot. Featuring alternative colors, it is the only copy, completely hand-made, which sequence number is 0000. The money raised from the auction will be given to the Austrian charity fund Wiener Lerntafel that helps underprivileged children.

When she first announced the set in November Netrebko stated, “I am extremely honored and excited about this unique collaboration. I have admired the art and craftsmanship of Imperial Porcelain for many years and I am thrilled to now present my first ever design, entitled ‘Aida,’ together with IPM.”

Her inspiration for the work was Verdi’s heroine Aida, a role she will be portraying this upcoming summer at the Salzburg Festival under Riccardo Muti.

Netrebko is one of the most recognized opera singers today as she became the first opera singer to be featured in Time’s 100 most influential. Since then her albums have topped the pop charts and she has released numerous DVD recordings. This year she was awarded the Echo award and she made numerous role debuts including Elsa in Wagner’s “Lohengrin.” She also released her anticipated album Verismo and went on tour in Asia. The soprano is scheduled to sing Lady Macbeth in December in Munich and will also sing the role of Tatiana in Tchaikovaky’s “Eugene Onegin” at the Metropolitan Opera and Paris National Opera.

Netrebko’s porcelain tea sets were released this week and are limited edition.
